Ruthann Long of Bloomington passed away peacefully on Friday, June, 20, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on December 3, 1932 to Joseph C. Cortner and Rubye E. (Bartley) Cortner, she was a career employee at the Eli Lilly Drug Company in Indianapolis before her retirement.
Ms. Long resided most of her life in the Greenwood area, where she raised two children, Carla Lynn Hawhee (now English) and Curt Hawhee.
Ms. Long, who moved to Bloomington in January, 2024, to be closer to her daughter, was a long-time matron in the Order of the Eastern Star, a Masonic-related fraternal organization that is open to both men and women. The organization emphasizes charitable, educational, fraternal, and scientific purposes.
Ms. Long is survived by her two children; seven grandchildren, Brendan Kearns, Sarah Kearns, Erin Kearns, Jeremy English, Curtis Hawhee, Sean Hawhee, and Michael Hawhee; and two great-grandchildren, Ian English and Mia Kearns.
Ms. Long will be cremated and her ashes interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana, at a later date.
