

Samuel Lee Collins, age 82, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday evening, April 9, 2023 at his residence. Born February 25, 1941 in Bloomington, he was the son of Oscar and Nettie (Coffey) Collins. Sam was an accomplished musician and a life-member of the Nashville Musicians Association, local 257 and the American Federation of Musicians for 44 years. He retired from the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources working primarily at Paynetown State Recreation Area on Lake Monroe. He was a member of the Church of the Firstborn.
Sam is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie (Kerry) Sims and Tammy Miles, both of Bloomington; one sister, Rose Mason, of Bloomington, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pauline (Smith) Collins on Feb. 24, 2015, one daughter, Michelle Deckard, one grandson, Samuel Lee Deckard, one brother and three sisters.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 10:00 a.m., to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
