

On October 8, 2014, Shirley Francis Hacker completed her resilient battle against cancer. With courage, dignity, and the close comfort of her family's presence, Mrs. Hacker took her Lord and Savior's hand early that morning.
She was born in Martinsville, IN to the late Frank and Hazel Yutmeyer on June 6, 1935. She will be reunited in Heaven with husband, Joseph H. Hacker, married January 6, 1951. Mrs. Hacker was the loving and comforting mother to 7 children: the late Kenneth Hacker (Pam), Robert Hacker, Karen Nicholson, Cindy Durham (Garry), Becky Neal (the late Jerry Neal), Vicki Figg (Tim) and Joseph Hacker II. A wonderful grandma to 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren . A compassionate sister to Marilyn Curtis, Anna Hammack (Austin), Sherry Jennings (Bill), Hoarce Yutmeyer, and Harry Yutmeyer. Welcomed in Heaven by brothers and sisters Steve Yutmeyer, Dwight Yutmeyer, David Davis, Joan Rapp, and Jean Kent.
She worked for Bloomington North High School before retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Attended North Central Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing bingo around the community. Mrs. Hacker was also known for being a wonderful cook. She was a busy woman whom enjoyed life and appreciated the goodness in all. Striving to stay active, she was very involved in her grandchildren and great-grand children's activities and lives.
Mrs. Hacker was able to enjoy her time during illness at home with the help of her children and IU Health Hospice. Family would like to thank the staff of IU Health Hospice for their compassionate and holistic care.
A call to celebrate the life of Mrs. Shirley Hacker will be at Day and Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-3pm on October 12, 2014. Funeral service will begin at 3pm following visitation.
