Mrs. Carla Jean Peery, age 82, the eldest daughter of Lela and Wilbur Blum, passed away on 22 November, 2025, at her residence in Seattle, Washington. She was born 23 June, 1943, in Marion County, Oregon.
Carla is survived by her husband, David Peery, to whom she was married for over 62 years, her sister Doris, daughter Nikko, son Travis, and honorable daughter, Nancie, as well as three grandkids, Chelsea, Samantha, and Sean, and two great grandkids, Wyatt and Ember.
Carla grew up on a farm in Oregon with her three siblings. After graduating high school, Carla married Dave and started their family. Throughout moving around for Dave's work, Carla held various jobs in Oregon, Idaho, and California along the way, before settling into the Seattle area on a quiet suburban street. When the kids were in their teens, a wooded lot on a hill not far away opened up with dreams of an underground house. After clearing a few trees, Dave and Carla decided that the view was too spectacular to miss, so the family worked together (with some outside help) to design and build the three-story house that remains their home today.
Throughout all her years, Carla celebrated life and enjoyed many activities with her family. Carla’s spirit was compassionate, warm, creative, funny, and full of heart. She was known for sharing her delightfully “purrrfect” attitude with everyone, a habit inspired by her lifelong love of cats. She spent many tireless days supporting the scholastic and athletic activities of her children, attending numerous school concerts, swimming practices and meets, as well as too many running events to count.
Carla was very artistic from an early age, and continued sharing those passions throughout her life, e.g., stained glass, painting, sewing, and incredible custom cakes for birthdays. As her sewing endeavors grew, she enjoyed teaching kids and adults alike the joys of sewing and basic life skills, and participated in many state fairs. She planned many weddings and created dresses for several beautiful brides. Carla became a cherished member of the Snohomish Clothing & Textile Advisors group for many years, teaching at events like the Sew Expo and Camp Stitch-a-Lot. She was active for many years in elementary education through her daughter’s and grandchildrens’ elementary schools and other youth organizations like 4-H. Later, she traveled both domestically and internationally for various sewing and textile events, even visiting Spain and France. Dave and Carla spent many exciting days touring around the U.S. on a motorcycle, often as part of a motorcycle club, enjoying the outdoors and the roadside smells along the way.
In her later years, Carla spent more time at home with her beloved kitty, and her creative projects became even more whimsical, using atypical materials and a variety of mediums for painting, drawing, felting, sewing, quilting, and cooking. In slower moments, Dave, Carla, and Miss MewMew enjoyed sitting by the fire, watching the myriad birds and squirrels they fed outside their windows.
Carla was a determined woman, full of kindness, compassion, creativity and curiosity.
A funeral service will be held on December 5th, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Lifetime Celebrations by Washelli, 18224 103rd Ave. NE, Bothell, WA 98011. Friends and family are welcome to attend the informal celebration of Carla’s life and to share fond memories, view some of Carla’s artistic handiwork, and actively share some of Carla’s more recent pastimes, such as word searches, crossword puzzles, or coloring books.
