Born March 21, 1924, in Kaitaichi, Japan, to missionary parents, theologian Dr. Arthur Petrie and his wife Dorothy, Margaret was a free spirit at heart, lover of nature, a good adventure, music, and all things wild. She had a contagious laugh that drew you in and her big, generous hugs made you feel loved. Margaret had an eye for fashion and the figure to match it, with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, Margaret was a dazzling, creative woman who embraced all that life had to offer.
In a whirlwind, wartime romance, she married Alton (Al) on December 27, 1943 in Reno during a leave he had while his ship, the U.S.S. Maryland, was being repaired after sustaining damage at Pearl Harbor. They raised three rambunctious boys and Margaret enjoyed her career at the Sand Point Country Club. She loved traveling, often visiting Hawaii and Mexico with family and friends, as well as adventures to the Caribbean, Europe and all 50 States. Al and Margaret celebrated 71 years of marriage in 2014.
She is preceded in death by her husband Al, their eldest son, Alton, Jr. (Bud), granddaughter, Karri Ann, and siblings Art, Eleanor, Bob, David and Kenny. She is survived by four of her nine siblings, Mariel Kirk, Lois Skanse, Carol Turner, Donna Wartes (Christopher), and 2 of her 3 sons, Steven and his wife Teresa and Glenn and his wife Pamela. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Ruth, 10 grandchildren, Joseph (Terri), Emily (Darren Williams), James (Summer), Christina (David Cole) Marna (Don Carroll), Taylor (Tiffany), Stephanie (Bryce Hanson), Mark, Trisha (Marcus Royal), Jessica (Brad Mulder), 25 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild that just arrived.
Her deep love of family and friends will be missed by all, and her spirit carries on in all of us who knew her. There will be a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM, February, 7th, 2025, at Imprint Church in Woodinville, WA.
