She spent most of her life in the Lake City/Seattle area with her siblings, Larry, Jackie, Rick and Margaret. Nancy was quite proud of herself when she graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1968.
Staying in the area allowed her to stay close to the Day family and her best friend Bev Warnock. They all supported her when she met and later married Mike McCandlish at Matthew’s Beach in Sand Point, Seattle, Washington on May 2, 1981. Their love gave forth two sons, Shane and Brett. Shane added Leif, his son, to the family recently while Brett has Carter and August.
Nancy’s career for almost forty years was as a hair stylist, maintaining several relationships after retiring. Before that she worked in her family’s travel agency. Both kept her busy but not busy enough to keep her out of the garden. She loved to tend to her beautiful flowers and keep her grass green. Before bed, she often read in her comfy flannels. For football games she was always making food either at home or for a tailgate feast! Go Dawgs! Go Hawks!
Even keeping busy with all the cooking, sewing, and reading, she still had time for community outreach. When her sons were young, she was a Den Mother for her local Boy Scout troop. Her favorite place to travel was Hawaii, and she went as often as she could!
For a short time she had an adorable small Pomeranian named Chewy. She also shared her love with a cat named Tequila and Omar, a Husky Malamute.
This busy life finally gave way to her 2013 retirement in Mill Creek, Washington. Here she could spend her days floating in the pool, gardening, and her favorite thing of all, watching her grandchildren.
She will be missed but never forgotten by her loving husband Mike; sons Shane (Andrea) and Brett (Rachel); grandchildren Leif, Carter, and August.
