She was the cherished, oldest daughter of Barney and Billie Phipps. Moving to Salt Lake City, UT as a young girl, Carole's academic journey led her to graduate from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts. After raising her family, Carole dedicated herself to education as a middle school English teacher in New Mexico for over two decades, instilling a love of learning and leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives.
Carole's love for the performing arts, particularly the symphony, reflected her appreciation for beauty and culture. An avid reader, she found humor, joy and solace in the written word, collecting, and reading 100s of books in almost every genre. Carole's passion also extended to the animal kingdom, where her love for furry friends led her to adopt numerous abandoned cats and dogs, each one a cherished companion who found comfort in her care.
Carole is survived by her husband of 29 years, Joe Gray, and loving daughters, Suzanne Swanson (Joe) and Katie Phillips (Steve). Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Ashley Williams (Mike), Amanda Goff (Michael), Rachel Phillips, William Swanson, and Timothy Phillips. Carole was also blessed with the the arrival of five great-grandchildren, each of whom brought a light to her eyes when surrounded by their joy and laughter. In the hearts of her family and friends, Carole's spirit lives on, and her memory will be fondly held by those who were touched by her love.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in her memory to the Colorado Symphony, an organization close to Carole’s heart, committed to providing accessible music experiences for the entire community. Your contributions will honor Carole’s legacy by supporting a cause that brought her immense joy.
The family expresses gratitude for your support during this difficult time. May Carole rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, knowledge, and compassion.
Celebration of Life will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Crist Mortuary Chapel in Boulder, CO.
