Marie was born to Hattie and John Myers, in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up on a farm in Randallstown, just outside of the city. During World War II, one of her first jobs was riveting planes in Pennsylvania with her younger sister Sug. Marie met her future husband James G. Wood at age 24, the couple married two years later. They arrived in Colorado shortly after they were wed and developed a passion for skiing, hiking and camping. Marie became the Assistant to the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Colorado University, where she remained throughout her long career. In 1980 she was recognized with the Stearns Award for her extraordinary achievements and service at Colorado University.
Marie was one of a kind. While intelligent and strong, she will most be remembered as an elegantly fun woman with her vibrant personality and sense of humor. She treasured her family and friends, and we will miss her dearly.
Marie was predeceased by her husband of more than 65 years, James; her brothers Edward, Raymond, and Buddy, and her sister Carrie. She is survived by her children Jane (John), Lorraine (Jack), Thomas (Holly), and Bradley; her grandchildren Cynthia, Kimberly, Michael, and Kristine; her great grandson Seth; her friends and her extended family.
A warm service celebrating Marie's life will be held at 10AM on Saturday, January 21. All friends and family are welcome to join us in the chapel of Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301. Arrangements under the direction of Crist Mortuary, Boulder, CO.
