He was born October 28, 1928 in the mining town of Bingham Canyon, Utah and was the son of the late Silas S & Mary Olive Shelley Thorne. David, a retired biologist enjoyed hiking Bear Canyon and any outdoor excursion with his family. In retirement, David could always be found working on a project to create something new or better. David is survived by his five sons, Paul (Karina) of Richland, Washington, Greg (Sharon) of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado, Ken of Boulder, Colorado, Ron (Jeanne) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Steve (Jaymie) of Longmont, Colorado. David had 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. David is also survived by his sister Alta Cunliffe (Gene) of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents Silas and Olive, his wife Gwendolyn, sisters Afton Hallet (Loren), Reva Parker (Keith), Marilyn Groesbeck (Monty) and grandson Justin Thorne. Memorial services for David Thorne will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 4, 2019 at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301. There will be a celebration of life reception following at the home of Steve and Jaymie Thorne.
