While growing up, my mom had to quit school at an early age to help take care of her younger siblings. After marrying my dad, his mom passed at an early age leaving behind 4 children to care for; Lorraine Gurule who was 13, Gail Gurule who was 10, Della Gurule who was 7 and Chote Gurule who was 4. My mom was 22 years old at the time with a newborn (my brother) and she stepped up to the plate to help my grandfather take care of the 4 children. My Aunts & Uncle to this day seen her as a second mother to them.
Later on, in life while my mom worked at Valleylab/Covidien for 30+ years, she was always known as “mom” who took care of everyone there as well. My mom had a way with people and knew just the right words to say to others to make them feel better. She was an extremely valued employee at Valleylab/Covidien who was very dedicated and loved the work she did. My mom retired from Valleylab/Covidien about 7 years ago and never imagined that she would be moving in with me but, I convinced her to live with me as her health started to decline. She was very grateful to have me as a daughter as I took care of her no matter what the circumstances were. She was always thanking me and I was always telling her, “This is what we do, we take care of our parents & I’m here for you no matter what”; that would always bring a smile to her face.
Mother also known as “Ma” was a beautiful soul, you could always count on Mother to pray with you when you were in need or just be there to listen. She was a very giving person, not only donating to organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, St. Joseph’s Indian School and the church she attended but, giving to those in need. She was always thinking of others before herself and loved to make people happy. Mother was full of compassion and those who met her instantly fell in love with her. When meeting Mother, she instantly treated you like family. She loved being surrounded by family; family was super important to her.
Mother will be deeply missed and remembered for her beautiful heart forever!
