

Erik Nelsestuen (44) passed away at AdventHealth hospital in Littleton, Colorado on Saturday, December 6, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born Erik David Nelsestuen to Rodney and Diane (Alvarez) Nelsestuen, in La Crosse, Wisconsin on April 26, 1981. Erik and his family lived in Boulder, Colorado where he is survived by his wife Sarah (Patterson) Nelsestuen, and two children, Alexander (Xander) 11, and Ember (Emmie) 9. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Grant and his wife Nina (Pyatskowit) and their son Julian 10 and daughter Charlotte (Charlie) 8, of Madison, Wisconsin, and a sister, Kathryn, and her husband Matt Hallas and their son Liam 6, of Wausau, Wisconsin.
Erik grew up in Flushing, Michigan where he graduated from Flushing High School in 1999. He played soccer and was a track stand out. In 2003 he graduated with a degree in Computer Science from Michigan State University. At his passing he was a System Architect leading development teams in designing and upgrading key large-scale and complex governmental systems.
He and Sarah moved to Boulder shortly after they married in 2006 where they developed a love of hiking and camping. They also enjoyed mountain climbing with his friends and members of Sarah’s extended family. He was known as warm, genuine, and devoted to his many friends, but his family was his passion, and he put them first in his life. He will be missed but never forgotten by the people who knew him, whether as a friend, a husband, a father, a son, or as a brother.
The family is hosting a celebration of Erik’s life on Saturday May 9, 2026 at Church of the Lookout, 7845 Lookout Road, Longmont, CO 80503, beginning at 11 a.m., and all are welcomed.
