Erma Eileen Getman, of Lafayette, Colorado, went home to be with her Lord on December 16, 2012 at the age of 85 with her family by her side. Erma was born in Van Wert, OH on June 2, 1927 – one of seven children of Leonard and Martha Bresler. She married the love of her life, Gerald LaVerne Getman on December 21, 1947 in Boulder. They spent six years in Alaska, then returned to Boulder to raise their three wonderful sons – Howard Eugene (Christine), Stephen Ray (Donna), and Mark Leslie (Linda) Getman. Gerald died on January 17, 1986 and she has two surviving sisters, Mable Dillahay , New Mexico and Pat Cook, Boulder.
Erma loved young people so she took a job as a cook at the Chi Omega Sorority on the University of Colorado campus, then moved to the Boulder Valley School District as a cook. In her later years, she loved working in various grocery stores handing out sample food to the patrons and talking to everybody who would stop by! She was blessed to be able to spend an incredible amount of time with her grandchildren – Lisa Dawn Beecher, Tammy Lynn Kissinger, Matthew Howard Getman, Christopher Ashley Getman and Lauren Adeline Getman – picking them up from school, taking them to ice cream or Kentucky Fried Chicken or McDonalds or simply hanging out with them at her home. She loved singing, dancing around her house and playing with her 11 great grandchildren – she said it kept her young!
Erma was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her personality was magnetic, her laugher infectious and her smile would capture your heart forever. She gave her love to everyone around her and was the light of our family. We are happy she is dancing in heaven with her wonderful husband, Gerald, for their 65th anniversary which would have been on December 21, 2012.
A memorial service will honor her life and be held at Calvary Bible Church at 2:00 on Thursday, December 20, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Calvary Bible Building Fund or Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ). A reception will follow at the church.
