Glenn McLean

Glenn McLean was born January 25, 1930 in Denver, Colorado and passed away February 1, 2024 in Louisville, CO. Glenn was the sixth of ten children of Laura Ellen (Throckmorton) and George Washington McLean. He grew up in Hot Sulphur Springs, CO participating in softball, basketball, baseball and skiing, and graduating from Hot Sulphur Springs High School in 1947. Glenn received many skiing awards and a scholarship to Western State College in Gunnison, attending there from 1947-1950 and competing as a member of Western State’s championship ski team until being seriously injured in a ski jumping accident in Wyoming.

Glenn married Rae Ann Brocious in March 1951, serving the next two years with the US Army. Rae Ann had a son Michael from a previous marriage who Glenn adopted, and on November 22, 1952 Glenn and Rae Ann welcomed a daughter, Debra Rae. They were later divorced. After discharge from the Army Glenn took accounting and business management courses at the University of Colorado and from late 1957 through early 1963 worked for Dow at the Rocky Flats Plant.

On June 21, 1963 Glenn married Joan Patricia McCormack in Boulder, CO where they lived happily for the next 55 years. From March of that year until December 1967 Glenn was Assistant Manager at the Baseline Conoco in Boulder. In December 1967 he went back to Dow at the Rocky Flats Plant, finally retiring from Rockwell as Program Operations Planning Manager in 1990. Glenn and Joan were active in their church and the Optimist Club. Glenn enjoyed his retirement, spending time with Joan, family, traveling, reading, gardening, CU football and basketball, the Rockies and the Broncos. Glenn and Joan moved to an apartment at the Balfour Retirement Community in Louisville in 2018.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Robert (“Barney”), Frederick (“Donald”), and Leonard (“Mac”); five sisters Martha (“Sally”) Engle, Alice (“Polly”) McLaren, Helen Howell, Betty Birdsill, Patricia (“Pat”) Rust; and son Michael McLean. He is survived by wife Joan, daughter Debra Drew, brother Gene, grandsons Jeffrey McLean, Michael Drew and Jeffrey Drew, great grandchildren Madison McLean, Alexia Knittel, Dexter Drew, Jaiden Drew, and Darius Drew, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Celebration of Life for Glenn will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301, followed by a reception from 11:45 AM to 1:30 PM.
