Jim was a great boss, mentor and friend, an important role model in my early career. He worked to get me my first promotion. Jim is one of those wonderful individuals that I and others will never forget.

I have known the Gavegan family for 37 years, they have always been my "second family". With that many years of memories, it is hard to pick just one. So let me say, I have been honored to be a part of this family, and for Jim to have accepted me into his fold as "one of his own". It was a privelage to share such special and private moments, what an honor, thank you, I love you.

I'm grateful that I had the pleasure of meeting Jim last summer while in Colorado. Although I met him just this once, his kindness and enthusiasm for life made an impression. He told Margaret, her kids and me the history behind the many items he had collected over the years. You could see his eyes light up when he told the stories behind each item. He pulled out one shell that he must have had for decades and gave it to Margaret's son, John D.  One small act of kindness that her son will remember for a lifetime. I know he will be missed by his family and friends.

I worked with Jim for many years at tthe Labs and AT&T where he was my supervisor.  He,ll be missed and our sympathy to the family.  I regret we won,t be able to attend the service, but our thoughts and prayers are there.

As a kid, getting to visit Uncle Jim meant going to the coolest basement ever, the world's first "man-cave" complete with Pac-Man and Donkey Kong. He knew how to have fun through a kids eye, playing with CB radios on our Road Trip to Florida and introducing us to 'Casa Bonita', each Christmas, presents from "Rocky Mountain Santa". We'll miss you Uncle Jim.

Jim was a gentleman, indeed.  He was such a nice man and I remember him from many connections with Arlene.  I am sorry that he is gone.  Condolences to all the family.

Jim Gavegan was such a kind man. I was disappointed early this year to learn that he had retired from H&R Block. He seemed to make dealing with tax returns more bearable - especially after my own cancer surgery three Aprils ago. Mr. Gavegan was always so helpful and pleasant. I was saddened to read the obituaries today. My condolences go out to his family and friends. -With deepest sympathy.

I was always fond of Jim Gavegan and our interactions at AT&T.  He was very helpful in his guidance on how we could readily leverage our performance analyses to customer service problems in field support. Furthermore, he established a strong field support organization which I had an opportunity to work in during the 1990's.  I remember him as a witty, intelligent, kind, and nurturing individual.  He will be missed.

I worked with Jim on several telephone equipment installation here in Minnesota.  Got to know him well and through the years often got in touch.  He was a great guy and after both of us were retired and I finally got a computer we kept in touch by sending jokes etc.  I did meet him a year or so ago for about an hour when he was in Minnesota for a Cribbage Tournament.  Just talked to him a month or so ago when I told him that a probably have lung cancer.  Then I received an email one day where he said he may have the same thing.  He never mentioned it again in any of his emails.   So sorry for your loss of a great man and father.

Jim and I were in the same group before the Silver Fox got into Field Support.  His son and I also upgraded the US House of Representatives one Memorial Day weekend. Life is missing something without Jim and Bob Kennedy--John Payseur aka JYP

Having worked with Jim for many years and considered him a good friend for many more, I will always hold him dear in my heart.  Hundreds of memories come to mind, of field support, the Green Room, his Casdillac, Christmas parties in his basement (complete with "Cindy Lou Who", the first AMTS supervisor in the history of Bell Labsand so many, many more.  My sincere  condolences to all of his fasmily, and know that your father lived well and will be well remembered.

I worked with Jim for many years at Bell Laboratories; I will always have fond memories of him.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to share their memories of Dad. It is clear that he was blessed with many good friends and I am thankful and grateful to all of you for that.

We know that he lived life to the fullest every day and are thankful that he wasn't in pain. 

He has gone on to be with Mom in a better place.

Jim was a long time member of the Denver cribbage club.   He was the consumate gentleman but a highly competitive player.  He will be missed by all our members
