

November 24, 1938 - August 16, 2013
Joan Rae Borra, 74, long-time resident of Boulder and six-year resident of Broomfield, Colorado, passed from us on August 16, 2013 at Exempla Good Samaritan Hospital. Joan was born November 24, 1938 in Denton, Nebraska, and was the oldest of three daughters of Edmund and Arlene (Thom) Bila.
Joan attended elementary school in Greeley, Colorado until the Bila family relocated to Boulder where she attended Casey Jr. High School and graduated from Boulder High School in 1956. Joan married Charles Borra on May 12, 1957. Following Chuck's completion of Basic Combat Training, she accompanied him to Ft. Polk, Louisiana and then on to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina for several years. The couple returned to Boulder following his discharge from the Army.
During her life, Joan worked for CU-Boulder, was a stay-at-home mother, bookkeeper, ran a typing business, and managed Wheels Roller Rink with Chuck until his Multiple Sclerosis progressed and she became his full-time caregiver.
Joan is survived by daughter and son-in-law Laura and Tim Vincent of Broomfield and daughter and son-in-law Vickie and Bill Virden of Longmont, grandchildren Tom and Sarah Vincent and Becca and Jessica Virden. She is further survived by her sister Donna Holle of Berthoud, Colorado. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Susan.
A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, a viewing and reflection time will begin at 9:30 a.m., at Crist Mortuary in Boulder, Colorado followed by burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
Joan enjoyed drawing, games of Scrabble and Skip-Bo, and was an avid reader. Contributions in her memory may be made to Friends of the Colorado Talking Book Library, 180 Sheridan Blvd., Denver, CO 80226.
She will be forever remembered for her loving devotion to Chuck, her unconditional love of her daughters, and the joy her four grandchildren brought her. May her memory be a gift she graciously gave to all who knew her.
