Kathryn Suzanne Echohawk

Kathryn is survived by her husband, John Echohawk of Boulder, CO; her son, Chris Echohawk of Santa Fe, NM; her daughter, Sarah EchoHawk of Firestone, CO; her granddaughter, Sadie Vermillion of Evergreen, CO; her two grandsons, Cody and Andy Vermillion of Longmont, CO; her sister Penny York of Los Lunas, NM; and her sister, Holly Martinez of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Esther Martin of Farmington, NM; and her grandson, Jordan Earl EchoHawk Vermillion.

Kathryn was born on September 2, 1948 in Hays, KS. She spent the majority of her childhood in Farmington, NM. She married John Echohawk on October 23, 1965 in Farmington, NM. John and Kathy had two children, Chris EchoHawk, born in 1966, and Sarah EchoHawk, born in 1971. Her children remember her as a loving and supportive mom who was always there for them. The family moved to Boulder in 1971 where she attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and then went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her nursing career, she spent much of her time caring for elderly patients providing them loving and gentle care.

Kathryn was an accomplished interior decorator and gardener. Her artistic and creative talents were reflected beautifully in the two homes in Boulder, CO the family had during her lifetime where she hosted a number of gatherings over the years for family and friends. All those who knew her described her as beautiful person with a loving disposition who would do anything for those she loved. She was a generous person with a deep love for all living creatures and was passionate about protecting the environment and helping animals. Over the years, she volunteered at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley as well as Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Boulder.

Due to current health precautions surrounding COVID-19, funeral services will be private/closed on Monday, January 4, 2021. When it is safe to do so, a larger memorial service will be held where all friends and family will be invited to celebrate Kathryn’s life. Arrangements are being handled by Crist Mortuary in Boulder and Kathryn will be buried at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder where her grandson, niece, and father-in-law are also buried.
