Larayne Grace Malicki Schoon was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She passed away, peacefully, on October 14, 2014, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Larayne grew up in Minneapolis and married her college sweetheart, John, on May 18, 1953. A University of Minnesota attendee, she traveled all over the world with her husband John, first as an Air Force wife, and then when John was a pilot for United Airlines. She kept busy volunteering at Heatherwood Elementary School in her children’s classrooms, playing in tennis leagues at Boulder Country Club, and later in life enjoyed working as an election judge for Boulder County. She also enjoyed baking, needlepoint, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and was an unofficial Gunbarrel historian. Larayne was loved and respected by many and would drop everything to help someone in need. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John, and her twin brother, LeRoy. She is survived by her brother, Richard Mallicki of Minneapolis, sister Irene Smith of Minneapolis, sister Virginia Hyser of Brooklyn park, MN, son Jay (Christy) Schoon, daughters Jennifer (Scott) Morris, Jessica Graziano, and grandchildren Aidan and Carly Graziano and Maddie and Brady Morris. Neighbors and friends are invited to join her family for a celebration of her life at the Boulder Country Club on November 23 from 3-6 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sister Carmen or TRU Community Care.
