

Lila Gay Lewis (95), passed away on October 30, 2022, in Denver, Colorado. She was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, on November 21, 1926, to Ivan Kenyon and Ann McKinney. She graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1943. She was happily married for over 70 years to Charles Lewis who passed away in 2016. She was predeceased by her son Kendal and her sister Joan. She is survived by her children Stephen, Judith and Dean and her brother, Alan. She is also survived by five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Part of the Greatest Generation, she grew up during the Great Depression and came of age during WWII. In the high school band room, she met the love of her life, Charles Lewis. When the war started, Charles joined the Navy and fought in the Pacific Theatre. During the war, Lila worked as a draftsman for Sperry Univac and corresponded constantly with Charles. Charles survived the war, and they married as soon as he came home in 1946. The family moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1969.
Charles and Lila lived in Boulder for many years. They fell in love with the great nature of Colorado. They hiked, skied and camped throughout the state. Lila also enjoyed playing golf and mentoring junior golfers at Flatirons Golf Course. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed many crafts. She also liked gardening and bird watching. In 1982, Charles and Lila moved to the Gunbarrel neighborhood outside Boulder and enjoyed a long retirement together.
Lila was a wonderful wife, loving mother and nana, loyal daughter and sister, and caring neighbor. It was a good, full life. She will be buried with Charles at the Fort Logan National Cemetery.
