Marilou Nira Young, 85 years young, of Boulder, Colorado, passed away on September 14, 2019, due to Alzheimer’s and geriatric decline. She was born to the late Stewart and Mamie Rees, June 23, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio. Marilou graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School in 1952 and was married to Arthur Young in 1959. They lived in Michigan, New York, and then settled in Boulder, Colorado in 1966. She is survived by her children: Arthur Young Jr. and Kathleen Young; her grandchildren: Vincent LaVolpe, Zachary Young and Jackie Palmer.
Marilou was a generous and gracious woman who loved many activities during her life. She was involved in the Boulder Women’s Bowling Association for two decades. She was an avid reader, book and music collector. In her early years she loved to dance to the big bands and she enjoyed the works of the following musicians: Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and several other Country, Bluegrass, and classical artists. In her later years she attended numerous Operas, symphonies performances and plays. She shared her love of the arts and animals with family and friends. She adored her cats, especially her beloved Xena and Zonker. In fact, she often said when she died, she would come back as a pampered house cat.
A private ceremony will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in October. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to the National Wildlife Federation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
