Mary Ellen Dick of Boulder passed away on November 20, 2024 at the age of 82.
Born in 1942 in New York City to Mary (Lowry) Houston and Hugh Houston, Mary Ellen and her mom lived with Hugh’s parents in Staten Island while her father fought in WWII. After the war, they moved to Parkchester, Bronx and then Scarsdale, NY for the remainder of Mary Ellen’s childhood. Mary Ellen attended Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH from which she graduated in 1963. After graduation, Mary Ellen moved to Denver, CO and taught 5th grade.
Mary Ellen married William J. Dick, III on June 17, 1967 and moved to Boulder. They celebrated their 50th anniversary before Bill passed away in 2018.
Mary Ellen was happiest traveling with her family, especially to Africa. She loved the adventure of traveling and experiencing new food and cultures.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Christina (Grant) Clayton, Carolyn Wright, and Cathleen (David) Kendall and her two grandchildren, Drew and Lindsey Kendall. She is also survived by her sister Jean (Fred) Walsh and her niece and nephew, Courtney and Michael Walsh, and many life-long friends who felt like family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
