Quentin was born, grew up, and graduated from high school in Fort Madison, Iowa. Quentin went off to war in the Pacific in WWII as an Army Sergeant from 1942-1946, serving with the 81st Infantry attached to the 1st Marine Division. Duty stations included Pearl Harbor (basic training), Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Philippines, Palau, and Japan. Quentin and Alberta were married as soon as Quentin returned from his military service. Alberta gave birth to son Ron in 1947 and daughter Karen in 1952.
Quentin and Alberta, with children Ron and Karen in tow, traveled from Iowa to Colorado in 1956 on vacation and liked it so much that they decided to move to Boulder. They built their current home in Boulder in 1957 and lived there ever since.
Quentin worked for 31 years as a stock clerk at Rocky Flats, retiring in 1987. Quentin and Alberta enjoyed their retirement years together. Daughter Karen retired from her work at Boulder Community Hospital in 2019 to care for her parents at the home.
Quentin loved his Colorado Rockies and Denver Nuggets. He was also a big fan of the San Diego Chargers and, when younger, flew to several games with Karen. He and the family attended several Colorado Avalanche games each season when Alberta was living. He thoroughly loved car rides, including traveling to Estes Park with Karen to view the elk, and took frequent trips to Black Hawk before COVID set in. He loved sitting on his front porch watching the bird feeder and waving at neighbors. His favorite foods were crab legs, fried chicken, and chocolate meringue pie.
Private viewing is scheduled at Crist Mortuary on Friday, August 22 at 2 pm.
Their ashes will be spread together at their favorite spot in Rocky Mountain National Park.
