Robert “Bob” Wayne Wagner, 93, passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of his family on February 26, 2019. For the last 4½ years he has lived with Michael and Amber Wagner and their family who have cared for him in his decline with great love and compassion.
Bob was born to Wayne Kenneth Wagner and Carrie Mabel Falconer on August 23, 1925 in Joseph, Oregon, nestled in the Blue Mountains near Wallowa Lake east of Enterprise, Oregon. He graduated from Walla Walla High School and began university studies in the Spring of 1943 at Whitman College. His brief stay at Whitman was interrupted by WWII when he was called to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard the following fall. His service years were spent mainly in the Pacific War effort until the war ended in 1945. In the fall of 1945, Bob enrolled at the University of Washington (UW) where he completed his degree in Geology. It was during his time at UW that he met and later married his wife of nearly 65 years, the late Roberta Jean Kennedy. Bob and Jean had four children: Karen Mae Hearn (John) of Alta Loma, California; the late Paul Robert Wagner (Sue) of Boulder; Mary Beth “Betsy” Ayers (David) of West Lafayette, Indiana; and Steven Clyde Wagner (Valerie) of Seneca, South Carolina.
Bob was employed as a petroleum geologist and worked for the Mobil Oil company for more than 30 years. His work with Mobil began in Oklahoma City where Karen was born. He was transferred to Midland, Texas, then to Abilene where Paul and Betsy were born, and then on to Wichita Falls where Steve was born. Mobil then moved the family to California, Colorado, Texas and finally back to Boulder, Colorado in 1979. After he retired from Mobil in 1985, he served as a volunteer at Boulder Community Hospital and was very actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren.
Bob committed his life to Jesus Christ as a young man and took his faith seriously. He invested wholeheartedly in the spiritual lives of his family as well as numerous young men he met professionally or socially in the churches he attended over the years. He had the unique ability to encourage others to take a serious look at the claims of Christ and led many in their spiritual journey by the godly life he lived. Bob leaves a rich heritage of his Christian faith to his children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Cru (give.cru.org – Bradley and Julie Wagner #581559) or the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org).
