

Steve grew up in Wautoma, Wisconsin and graduated from Wautoma High School. After high school he attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and later transferred to Oshkosh, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. At Oshkosh, he was Assistant Speaker of the Student Assembly and while still a student, he ran for the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Upon graduation Steve moved to Boulder, Colorado and worked in management for the McDonald’s Corporation. He then went on to work in sales in the sports industry and later in real estate. He found his true passion to be teaching and earned his teaching degree from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. Steve worked for the Jefferson County Unified School District until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2010.
Steve was a lifelong avid sports fan. He was an accomplished all season athlete in high school and received the Batterman Scholarship Award. He was known for his love of the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos, the Green Bay Packers, the University of Colorado Buffaloes and also the Wisconsin Badgers. One of his proudest moments was to coach the Chatfield High School Girl’s Softball Team to be State Champions in 1998.
Steve was a beloved son, brother, uncle, teacher, coach and dear friend to many. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and wit and his kind, gentle and sincere spirit. Steve had the ability to hit a home run not only with his athleticism, but also with his heart.
Steve is survived by his sister Kathie (Manuel) Ayala of Mead, CO; his sister Renee (Stephen) Fehrman of La Selva Beach, CA; his sister Leigh (Matt) Moore of Westminster, CO; his 5 nephews Jeremy, Nick, Ben, Christopher, Tyler and 3 great-nephews Jacob, Adam and Elijah.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10:00 am.
