Violet Anne Varing

She was born in Louisville, Colorado to Luigi Antonio and Adeline Mary DeSantis, and grew up there with five siblings, Louis, Doris, Dominic, Elaine, and Dean. She moved to Boulder, CO after she married her husband Don in 1960, and there they lived for many years and raised a family. After Don's passing, Violet moved to Lafayette, CO where she lived for over 30 years.

Violet worked in a variety of jobs throughout her life. She was a waitress at The Old Plantation Restaurant in Estes Park, and at The Hacienda Restaurant in Louisville, where she met her husband Don. She worked at Remington Arms during WWII where she drove a forklift and inspected ammunition. In Denver, she worked at Union Station, Mountain Bell, and also Stover's Candy. In the 1950's she went to work for Dow Chemical at Rocky Flats where she worked in personnel and also in document control. Later she worked at Neodata in Boulder, then at Walmart in Lafayette for 20 years, after which she retired at age 80.

Violet enjoyed music and dancing, and playing the piano. She loved driving around in her 1960 blue Mercury Comet. She was an avid gardener and could make any plant thrive, and was also a wonderful cook and baker. She baked and decorated beautiful birthday cakes for her family, just one of the many ways she was always showing her love. Her family, especially her grandchildren Connor and Hayley, brought her much joy. She endured much throughout her life, but always remained optimistic, a pillar of strength and a ray of sunshine to everyone she met.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in law David Varing and Gina Biagi of Thornton, CO, daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and Ron Thorne, of Highlands Ranch, CO, grandchildren Connor and Hayley Thorne, sister Doris Winslow of Lafayette, CO, sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Richard Biella of Montrose, CO, brother Dean DeSantis of Broomfield, CO, and several nieces, nephews and their families.

A celebration of life will be held at Crist Mortuary in Boulder on July 29, 2023 at 11 am. Flowers can be sent directly to Crist Mortuary for the service.
