

Charles Thomas Houghtby III "Tom", age 72, Bradenton,FL passed through the veil on March 22, 2023 in his home with family by his side. He battled Acute Myeloid Leukemia with chemotherapy and an allogenic bone marrow transplant for 11 months.
Tom married Cheryl Lynn Creager on March 17,1973 at Liberty Chapel Methodist Church, Liberty Center, Ohio during an unexpected snow blizzard. On March 28, 1978, they were sealed for eternity in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Salt Lake Temple. She survives.
Tom was born in Addison, MI to Charles Thomas Houghtby Jr.
and Dorla Jean Huyghebart. He attended schools in Tecumseh and Addison, MI graduating in 1968. He attended Jackson Business College and then received his Bachelor's Degree in Management in 1981 from Siena Heights College. He later attended the University of Michigan and received a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1991.
Tom volunteered for the draft into the US Army in 1969 and was a Medical Corpsman in Saigon, Vietnam from 1969-1971.
Tom worked for Tecumseh Products Company, Tecumseh,MI as an Industrial Relations Manager (1969-1989); Aeroquip Division, Jackson, MI as Personnel Manager of hourly relations(1985-1987);Bixby Medical Center, Adrian, MI (1991-1996); Community Action Agency, Adrian, MI, as Tri County Work and Training Director, Lenawee Michigan Works Service Center Director, Lenawee County Director for the Medical Clinic ( 1996-2004); American Red Cross, Toledo, OH doing staff education and apheresis procedures at local hospitals (2004-2009).
During his work years, he was a Founding member of the Lenawee, MI Chapter of Boys and Girls Club; member of the NAACP; appointed by the Michigan State Supreme Court to the Foster Care Review Board; Lifetime member of the
member of the Vietnam Veterans of America; member of the Tecumseh MI American Legion where he served twice as Commander;member of Lenawee County 40/8 and Life member of Tecumseh VFW. He was member of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge.
Tom and Cheryl retired to Bradenton, FL in 2009. He then did volunteer work for elementary school reading programs, military pinnings of veterans for Tidewell Hospice, served in the Honor Guard for military funerals through VFW Post 10411 in Bradenton. He was a Guardian Ad Litem for the 12th Circuit Court in Florida.
He was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.
Tom is survived also by his son Charles Thomas Houghtby IV, Adrian, MI; loved family member Connie Wilson; foster son Guadalupe David Hernandez (Toledo,OH); mother Dorla Wiebeck, Bradenton, FL; father-in-law Ralph Junior Creager, Liberty Center, OH; sister Regena Marie Cunningham (Willy), Brooklyn, MI; brother Donald Edward Houghtby, Cement City, MI; granddaughters Briana Lamont, (Dakota Williams), Adrian, MI and Hailey Catherine Lamont, Adrian, MI; great-grandchildren Wyatt Dean Hilyard and Sophia Kathleen Cox; nephews Eric Eugene Slee (Alisa Schlesinger); Ralph Jameson Holdsworth; Tate Creager Slee (Lynn); Donald Thomas Houghtby (Chelsea Bolenbaugh); niece Erin Elizabeth Bonasso (Samuel); great nephews Brody Slee Godar; Trenton Houghtby; Samuel Paul Bonasso III; great nieces Eleanor Elizabeth Bonasso; Emilia Grace Bonasso; Ellie Juelle Houghtby; sister-in-laws Mary Beth Slee (Xavier Flores), Fuqua-Varina, NC; and Julie Amelia Creager (William Holdsworth), Liberty Center, OH.; and many loved family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by grandparents Charles Thomas Houghtby Sr. and Eva Lucille Houghtby; father Charles Thomas Houghtby Jr.; step- mother Yvonne Houghtby; mother-in-law Margaret Jean Lance Creager and much beloved aunt Charlotte Houghtby Backus.
Tom has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given in his honor to American Cancer Society; Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, FL; or Tidewell Hospice, Ellenton, FL.
Graveside military services will be held on Thursday, March 30th at 12:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery at 9810 State Rd. 72, Sarasota FL 34241. Bishop Steven Baker of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will preside. Those attending should arrive 30 minutes prior to service.
