

Henry C. Hicks Sr., age 89 of Homosassa, FL passed away Friday, November 3, 2017. He was born January 18, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland to William Garnet Hicks and Quina Boyd. Henry wanted to serve his country, but was too young to join, as 17 years old was the age to enlist. He quit school after the 11th grade to join the Merchant Marines in 1944 and joined the United States Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946, during WWII. Henry then served in the Merchant Marines from 1947 to 1950 and from 1951 to 1988 he worked in the construction industry as a brick mason and finally settled down to a part time brick mason from 1988 to 1998. Henry loved sharing time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also collected antique automobiles, with Ford being his favorite. Henry would read all he could and especially had an interest in history. Henry is survived by his wife, Betty Johnson Hicks; his children, Henry C. Hicks Jr. of Englewood, FL, and Richard S. Hicks of Plant City, FL; grandchildren, Stephanie Hicks Phemester, Eric Hicks, Richard Hicks Jr., Donald J. Hicks, Nicole Hicks Pennington, Bethany S. Hicks, and Scott Hicks; brother, Kenneth L. Hicks; sister, Rev. Scholastic “Louise” Hicks; great grandchildren, Brandon Phemester, Braden Phemester, Brooklyn Hicks, Myrakle Hicks, Ryleigh Hicks, Scarlet Pennington, Kelcie Pennington, and Morgan Hicks; and extended family grandchildren, Theresa Davis, Andrew Davis, Joshua Davis, Destany Crotts, Kaylee Crotts, and Hayleigh Speers. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his son in 1987, Douglas J. Hicks. Visitation will be Wednesday November 8, 2017 from 12pm to 1pm at Kicliter Funeral Home; 517 8th Avenue West, Palmetto, FL 34221 with the Funeral Service to follow, beginning at 1pm. Interment will take place at Manasota Memorial Park.
