Following graduation from Sterling High School James joined the United States Marine Corp where he attained the rank of Corporal. After returning from his military service James was employed at Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling for 31 years. After retirement from the steel mill, James continued working for many years doing painting, electrical, and light construction both in a professional capacity and as the preferred handyman for close friends and family. James always enjoyed being out in nature, fishing and boating, & animals, especially dogs. In the last few years when James finally fully retired he still enjoyed playing shuffleboard, pinochle, reading, and going to the movies.
He is survived by his loving son, Jason Hull and wife Kendra; two daughters, Katy Yoder and Lisa Wood; granddaughter, Hannah Yoder; three grandsons Spencer Hull, Gabriel Yoder, and Levi Hull; and a special friend Patricia Morrison. He is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Judith Kay (Landes) Hull; his parents; a sister Mary Ann Peterson; and a nephew, Nels Peterson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on August 7, 2018 at Manatee United Methodist Church in Bradenton with Rev. Clark Edward officiating. A gathering will begin one hour prior to service time at the church. A private family service will take place in Sterling Illinois at a later date.
