Jeanette was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil April 30, 1938, to Ana and Lourival DeAlmeida. She was the second youngest of 9 siblings whom she cared for deeply. Jeanette did her schooling in Brazil where she also went on to trade school with a degree in sewing going onto becoming a talented seamstress.
Jeanette arrived in the US in 1959 going onto live in the city of Newark, NJ with her sister and dear brother-in-law, Genny and Jose Leite, and their children, in which she had a treasured relationship.
In 1961 Jeanette’s sister, Divina, introduced her to the love of her life, Angelo. The sisters enrolled in English courses at Lafayette School in Newark, NJ, and as fate would have it, Angelo, was enrolled at the same school. After enjoying many school parties and Portuguese club dances, Jeanette and Angelo started dating. Six months later they were married on November 17, 1962, at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Newark, NJ. They honeymooned in Miami, Florida and lived in Newark, NJ for the next 15 years. They eventually moved to Kearny, NJ where they continued to reside for 43 years. In 2020 they fulfilled their dream of moving to Florida where Jeanette explored the beauty of the area and savored the sunshine.
Jeanette became a mother in 1965 to her first daughter Joyce, then had her surprise baby Natasha. Jeanette was an amazing, caring and loving mom with a close and special relationship with both her daughters. She loved her girls profoundly. She was their mother and best friend.
Jeanette worked as a bridal gown seamstress for the famed label, Ilissa Bridals by Demetrios in Manhattan. At Ilissa Bridals, she created a wedding gown for actress Linda Evans on the soap opera Dynasty. She then went on to open her own storefront, “Chez Nous Bridals”, with her daughters in NJ. Jeanette continued her passion for creating gorgeous custom gowns, including one for Mrs. New Jersey back in 1990’s.
Jeanette enjoyed traveling often visiting relatives in her beloved Brazil where family still reside and cherish fond memories of her. Some favorite trips included visiting France, Italy, Mexico, Hawaii, and Las Vegas. She especially enjoyed Walt Disney World where she became emotional meeting all the characters!
Jeanette loved her family more than anything, and adored her grandchildren, Laurence and Noel. She had a deep, loving bond with both. She was an amazing grandma, it was her destiny! Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she did everything in her power to create special moments and memories for them.
Jeanette loved to cook, showing her love through delicious, wonderful meals for the family. Family favorites were Brazilian Feijoada with all the trimmings and manicotti made from scratch which she learned from Angelo’s Italian family. She was a talented cook, and her family will miss all the traditional, special meals made with love.
Her home was a hub for family holidays and celebrations. She had a gift for making things special and making those around her feel cared for. Jeanette had a wonderful, joyful, humorous personality and a giving, loving spirit. She loved God and made sure to raise her kids with deep faith, praying for her loved ones continuously.
