

Joyce Anne Murtha, 74, of Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully Monday, April 2, 2017 surrounded by her husband and family. She was born November 22, 1942 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Joy was a beautiful, strong, caring and outspoken woman who truly brought “JOY” to everyone she met. As a self-made woman, she designed New York City fashion displays. She was an extraordinary artist and gifted craftsman who specialized in faux marbleizing and intricately detailed painting, restoring old furniture and surfaces to unique new museum quality. Prior to retiring to Sarasota in 2009 with her husband, Joy spent most of her adult life in Pelham, NY. She was an avid competitive tennis, golf, and paddle tennis player; she won numerous club titles at Pelham Country Club and Palm Aire Country Club. Joy was also a Deacon at the Huguenot Memorial Church in Pelham and an active member of Church of the Nativity in Sarasota.
She is survived by loving husband of 34 years, Stephen Murtha; 2 sons, Geoffrey Fiorito and Kendrick Fiorito, and their spouses, Naomi and Tara; a sister, “Ric” Maguire; as well as five grandchildren, Paige, Hailey, Sabrina, Brooke, and Cole.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. April 22, 2017 at Church of the Nativity; 5900 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34243.
