

Myla was born in Charlotte/Eaton County, Michigan and was raised on the family’s farm near Olivet Michigan where she loved walking in the woods and enjoying nature. She graduated in 1960 from Olivet High School, where she was a member of the Marching Band playing the clarinet. She continued her education at Olivet College graduating with a Major in Music. She also completed her Master’s degree at Central Michigan University before she started her teaching career living in Kalkaska at Mancelona elementary as their Music Teacher. Shortly after she moved to Fife Lake to teach 3rd grade where she felt she had the biggest impact on helping children to finish their year at the reading level they should be at or better. After moving to Bradenton Florida in 1976 she worked for Publix running the receiving/shipment desk at her location and at HR Block as a Tax preparer for over 25 years before retiring and enjoying the Golf Lakes community activities, such as Ceramics club, Holiday programs, Aggravation group and traveling to the Hot Air Balloon festival in Battle Creek Michigan in the summer while also attending her annual high school reunions and spending time with her family.
Myla was preceded in death by her husband Bill Layton, her parents Rex Willis and Julia (Raymond)Willis, Brother Howard Willis (Phyllis) Sister Martha Willbur (Gordon) She is survived by her Daughter Linda Monroe (Scott), Her 3 granddaughters, Danielle Shellhass (Jason), Allyson Varnadore (Dan), Brittany Scarborough (Trent), her 3 Grandsons, Chris Monroe, Marc Monroe ( Kayla), Matt Monroe(Ashley), Her 5 Great grandchildren Kaylee & Audrina Varnadore, Lia Shellhaas, Hayden Scarborough and Adalyn Monroe, Her Niece, Mary Willis, her nephew, Butch Willis, along with several cousins.
