She was born in Manhattan, New York on January 8th, 1936. She was preceded in death by her Mother Doris Lord Ross and her father Albert James Ross.
Sheila was raised in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. She began working when she was 15 years old and held a few small jobs before landing a job at Lord & Taylor department store in Manhattan. Her first position was in the buyers’ office followed by a position in the Jewelry cage. She was fantastic at design and would occasionally help design the window displays but just for fun. She couldn't be hired to be part of the window display team because she would have had to wear pants and wearing pants wasn't
appropriate for women working at Lord & Taylor in the 1950's. Sheila also designed some jewelry and modeled clothes for Ann Fogerty.
She met Billy Ross in 1955 and they were married in August 1956. Sheila never even had to change her last name as she and Billy had the same last name when they met. After getting married they moved to Jacksonville, NC. In 1958 they moved to Bradenton, Florida. Sheila and Billy had 5 children in ten years.
Sheila spent the next 20 years taking care of Billy and their five children. She was an immaculate housekeeper, wonderful wife and mother and a skilled cook. She and Billy divorced in 1976.
After her divorce in 1976 Sheila built a house near Linger lodge. She worked at USF, Reasoners Nursery, Appleton’s buffet house and Approved Health services. She also enjoyed boating on the Braden River and riding on her friends Harley Davidson motorcycles. Sheila retired in 1999.
She is survived and loved by her Children, Linda Ross, Nancy Nolin, Laura Clements and son-in-law Willis Clements, Gail Ross, James Ross and daughter-in-law Shirley Ross; her Brother Phillip Ross and sister-in-law, Ruthalda Ross. Her grandchildren, Laura Simon, Russell Ross, Angella Bermingham and her husband Mickie Poole, Matthew Ross, Amy Sweet, Carolyn Nolin, Krystin Nolin and Sarah Nolin. She also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren.
A Funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday December 31st, 2015 at Manasota Memorial Park and Funeral Home; 1221 53rd Avenue East Bradenton, FL 34203.
