Lillian was born on July 31, 1933 in Sandyston, N.J. She lived in Sussex County her entire life.
Lillian and her husband of 72 years, Ambrose Hamm owned and operated several businesses throughout their marriage. They worked side by side for over 30 years operating Hamm’s Sanitation, Inc. Lillian was affectionately known as Mama Hamm by the company employees. Lillian loved animals, she raised cockatiels and was always accompanied by her canine companions. Lillian was a longstanding member of the Tri-State Doll Club and its president for many years. She enjoyed gardening and decorating and always created a warm and welcome home, especially during the Christmas holidays.
Lillian was predeceased by her parents Joseph Schoonover and Mary Alice Smith (née Utter), her son Ambrose E. Hamm “Rebbie” (1965), her brother Joseph Schoonover (1965), her son-in-law Dr. Allen C. Dittenhoefer (2022), her grandson Travis J. Strobeck (2018) and her granddaughter Krystal L. Strobeck (2020).
She is survived by her husband Ambrose Hamm, her daughter Katherine Hamm Dittenhoefer, her daughter and son-in-law, Keilley and Charles Strobeck, her son Keith Hamm, her grandchildren James Caristia and his wife MeeJin, Leah Settembre and her husband Michael, Charles Strobeck “Chuck” and Keith Hamm Jr., her great grandchildren, Anthony, Noah, Jacob, Brooklyn, Alex and Jack, as well as her beloved canine companion Marley. Lillian is also survived by her sister Minnie Bedell and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wood’s Funeral Home of Branchville, N.J. Visitation will be held Monday January 30, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7 PM at Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main Street, Branchville, N.J. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 31, 2023 with interment to follow at the Branchville Cemetery.
The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
