

Clem Spurlock Rice Resident of Brentwood Dec. 13, 1924 - Sept. 30, 2012 Clem was born in Hoxie, Arkansas to Jessie Daniel and Mollie Spurlock Rice.After serving five years in the US Army he began a 32 year career with the California Penal system, beginning in 1946 ending in 1978. He retired as associate Warden at Deuel Vocational Institute for Men in Tracy, CA. He had a second career as owner-operator of small engine repair shop in Brentwood for 26 years. He was also a minister for the Church of Christ. Serving several congregations throughout California, including four years in Brentwood. He enjoyed gardening, farming, hunting, fishing, reading, and entertaining all people, especially family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jesse Thorne Rice, an infant daughter, Judy, his second wife, Willie Greer Rice, his brother John Willard Rice, and two sisters Verna Ulum and Ida Mae Winters. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Pickett Rice, a daughter, Clara Voncille of Antioch, and four sons, John of Indio, Mark of Modesto, James Donavan of Indio, and Paul of Montana. He also survived by three step children, Dr. Joel Pickett of Alabama, Suzan Pickett of Arkansas, and Faellen Hill of Arkansas. Other survivors are host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 5th at 11 am at Brentwood Church of Christ, Brentwood, CA. Brentwood Funeral Home (925) 634-2171
