Felipe Mercado died at age 87, peacefully in his sleep with family around him, in the early morning of April 18, 2024. He was born in San Elizario, Texas, to his parents Juan and Eufrosina Mercado. He was second oldest of seven children. His family moved to California when he was a teenager and he resided in Byron, California. He worked in the fields with his father and brothers, before becoming a truck driver.
He married the love of his life Dolores (Borjon), and they celebrated 56 years of marriage this past December. They were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood. They lived in Brentwood where they raised their family. He has two children and enjoyed coaching and supporting them in their various activities while they were growing up. His greatest joy and title was becoming Ompa to Carolyn and Gabriel.
Felipe was beloved by all who met him, for his kindness and generosity. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan and could give stats about players and teams in the major leagues. He also loved completing word searches and reading the newspaper.
He is survived by his wife Dolores, daughter Michele, son David (wife Rhiannon), grandchildren Carolyn and Gabriel; as well as his sisters Celia Ortega and Connie Morisey, brother Donato, as well as many numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Juan and Eufrosina, and brothers Raymundo, Fermin, and Antonio.
Felipe’s rosary will be on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Brentwood Funeral Home at 6:00 pm. His funeral mass will be on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood with internment following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch, California.
