Heaven has a new angel: our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and dear friend to many, Janice White. Janice was born in Kearny, Nebraska to Gage & Florence (Rork) Smith. The family moved to Oakley when she was 12 and she resided in East County for the rest of her life. She was a graduate of Liberty Union High School and worked for US Steel prior to her marriage to Wilmer White in 1946. She later worked as a part-time bookkeeper and tax preparer although her biggest job and greatest joy was presiding over her large, rowdy family.
When the nest emptied, she caught the travel bug and became quite the globetrotter, traveling to many destinations in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. But her favorite location always remained Hawaii. She also loved to cook. She read cookbooks like most people read novels. It was by happy chance that the phone company assigned her 634-FOOD as a phone number.
She is survived by her five children: Mark White (Laura), Christopher White (Rache), Shelley Murdock (Joseph), Robin McClellan (Michael), Lorri Eakins (Robert). She especially loved her 13 grandchildren: Hilary White, Erin White (Justin), Andria Madsen (Erik), Kyle White (Kaitlin), Thomas White, Benjamin Murdock, Jared Eakins, Daniel Eakins, Chadwick White, Bradley White, Michael Eakins, Nicholas Eakins and Amanda White. She delighted at being GiGi to: Owen Murdock, Zachary Madsen, Cassandra Murdock, Atticus White and "mystery baby" who is due this month and who she longed to hold. She also loved her "daughters-in-her-heart", Katherine White, Gloria White, Marion Brown and Molly McClellan, and nephews Jeffrey and Gregory Buckingham.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wilmer, and her sister, Charlene "Charlie"Buckingham.
Services will be held Monday, May 12 at 2 PM at the Brentwood Funeral Home, 839 First Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to Brentwood Regional Community Chest, PO Box 845, Brentwood 94513 would be appreciated.
Aloha Mom.
