John Capelli, of Discovery Bay, California, passed away on March 12, 2023, surrounded by the love of family. John was born in Missouri. Upon graduation from high school, John joined the Air Force. A devoted family man, John soon moved to California where he helped to support his brothers and sisters. He then met and married long-time love, Jeanette, and they raised their three children together in Newark, California. During this time, John was a Vice President for Bank of America, where he won numerous accolades for his hard work. He also was a baseball coach, role-model and mentor for anyone priveleged enough to know his kind and generous soul. A Rotarian, John selflessly believed in giving back to his country, his community and his family and friends.
John lived by the motto, “ Live your life from your eulogy backwards.” Thus, he lived each day as one of promise. John’s superpower was making others feel as if they were the most important person in the room. His patient, attentive, and caring nature provided solace to both friends and family alike. One of John’s most important roles was that of father and grandfather. After retirement, he and Jeanette moved from Newark to Discovery Bay, California in 2002. Anticipating the arrival of his first grandchild, John wanted to live as close as possible, to be involved in their journey through life. John and Jeanette spent their retirement years traveling the world and being involved with all of their grandchildren’s events and activities. He was everyone’s number one fan, supporting their dreams and endeavors, just as ardently as he supported the Oakland A’s.
John is survived by his wife Jeanette; his daughters, Gina and her Husband Daniel, Andrea, and his Son Glen and his wife Heather. His grandkids Elyse, Gavin, and Joaquin. His sister LeAnne and husband Charles, Sister Jane. Brother Tom and his wife Mary, Brother Dave and wife Gloria, Brother in law LeRoy, and many nieces and nephews. His mark will forever be imprinted on their hearts.
