June 29, 1955-April 28, 2013
Susan “Sue” Kelleher, formerly of Bracknell, England, died peacefully at home on Sunday, April 28, 2013. She was 57.
Born in Wokingham, England to Alyn and Marjorie Jones on June 29, 1955, Susan was the third of four children. From the moment she was born, Susan was noted for her beautiful deep brown eyes, earning her name from a flower – The Black Eyed Susan. “Susie,” as she was cherished, grew up in Bracknell with older brother Keith, older sister Christine and younger sister Tracy. After leaving school, she began her working career as an orthopedic nurse at Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot, England.
When Susan made the decision to change careers, she found herself in a marketing position, working for Calcomp Technologies. It was there she met her future husband, David Kelleher. After a few years of dating, Susan and David were married in a registry office in Reading, England on April 4, 1985. Later that same year, they welcomed their first child, daughter Amie. Three years after, their second child, Thomas, was born.
As parents of a young family, Susan and David made the decision to value each and every opportunity they were given, resulting in several moves and trips around the world. Their first opportunity was to move to Melbourne, Australia in the early 1990s. There they made several lifelong friends. After a few other moves, they were presented with the opportunity to move to California in 1996. They finally settled in Brentwood in 1999.
Susan was a beautiful person, inside and out. You couldn’t help but smile in her presence. She treasured her family and took care of her “Big Kid.” She was the best mother anyone could ask for and had significant relationships with both of her children. She was diligent in writing to her family and friends, and rarely missed sending a birthday card to anyone. She gave the best cuddles.
In the last few years, Susan fought courageously against breast cancer and was determined to beat it. The recent diagnosis of its malicious return hit her hard. She fought like no other in her last few months. With such a gathering of family and friends around the world, Susan will be extremely missed.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her husband, Dave; daughter, Amie (Shawn); son, Thomas (Rachel); brother, Keith (June); and sisters, Christine and Tracy (Clive).
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at Brentwood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
