
Thomas G. McCreary Mar. 12, 1923 to Aug. 20, 2010 Resident of Brentwood Thomas McCreary, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away peacefully August 20. Born in Cleveland, OH in 1923, Tom served with the Marines 4th Division during WWII. Awarded a Purple Heart for his service in Iwo Jima, Tom returned to Ohio to attend Bowling Green State University. After attending college Tom began his long career as a scientific associate. In 1960 he moved to California to begin work with the Livermore Lawrence National Laboratory, where he worked until retirement in 1985. Tom supported many important experiments in the Chemistry and Materials Science Department, contributing to publications and making presentations on the experiments he conducted. Since moving to California, Tom has lived in Castro Valley, Pleasanton and Brent-wood. He always placed high value on community service and actively volunteered for organizations including the St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Marines Delta Detachment 1155, and the Veterans Hospital in Martinez. Mr. McCreary is survived by his wife Frances; son Paul; daughter-in-law Suzy; and, his grandchildren Joy and Matthew. He is also survived by two brothers Lewis of Cleveland, Ohio, and Donald of Nantucket, Mass. He was predeceased by his eldest brother Robert G. McCreary Jr., who died in 1997, and Dustin "Dusty" C. McCreary, who died in 2005. Tom will be missed by his family and friends for his commitment to community service and great sense of humor. A Funeral Service will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Brentwood on Friday, August 27, at 11:30am.
