Elizabeth M. Beasley was born on January 14th, 1954 in Columbus, MS to Langdon Jeffries McKinney and Carolyn Virginia McGee. She was 1 of 4 children (siblings: Linda Blakeney, Carol Jowers, and Jeff McKinney). She was nicknamed "Libba" by her older sisters who couldn't pronounce Elizabeth when she was born! She graduated in 1972 from S.D. Lee High and went on to Mississippi State University where she majored in physical education.
Shortly after college, Libba and her sister, Carol, moved to the big city of Memphis, TN where she became a criminal court reporter at 201 Poplar Avenue. This led to the great love story between Libba and James C. Beasley, Jr., the handsome lawyer, who "loved the girl with the bow in her hair". They were married in September of 1982, and their adventure began with two beautiful girls, Elizabeth "Beth" McCracken (Patrick) of Brentwood, TN and Sarah Hudson McNicoll (Matt) of Charlottesville, VA. She naturally excelled at motherhood with her girls! From birthday parties to school projects and wedding planning, she did it all without hesitation. She made every holiday magical and creating a cozy home for her family was no exception.
After 8 years at the courthouse, Libba became a realtor while continuing to raise her girls, but once they were grown...a new love began. Long days of parenting turned to long days on the golf course and watching patio sunsets with Jim. Golf became the sweetest bond for those two. They enjoyed traveling to different courses with friends (Pebble Beach was their favorite) and playing with their son-in-laws (Matt & Patrick). Libba was a competitive member of the Ladies League at Windyke Country Club, where she not only won on the greens but won Halloween contests too (famously known for her Big Bird and Sandy from Grease costumes)!
Her love of golf led to one of her greatest nicknames: becoming "Birdie" to Blakely Elizabeth McCracken (3) and Riley James McCracken (2). She loved teaching Blakely how to bake, sing, and dance just like her girls. Whereas Riley James was her snuggler, and she couldn't get enough of his hugs.
The other loyal and faithful companion in her life was her Shih Tzu, Ginger (12). She never left Libba's side after losing Jim but especially throughout her cancer journey. She laid with Libba until her final breath when she knew her job, as a devoted friend, was complete.
Although we grieve here on earth, we know Mom and Dad are reunited again in Heaven with their maker. Oh, what a glorious day it was!
"When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart. Then I shall bow, in humble adoration and then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!"
A Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00PM prior to her service. Service will be held in Libba's honor at Grace Evangelical Church where Libba and Jim were devoted members. Friday, August 18th, 2023 from 2:00-3:00PM
