Sandy “Sandy” Madsen of Brentwood, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, November 13. Sandy fought a hard, long battle with Leukemia. Sandy was loved so much by friends and fiercely devoted to family. She will be remembered by her favorite pastimes, gardening, travel and decorating. She was a devoted Christian throughout her life, becoming a Stephen Minister was a passion. Sandy gave her time helping others through many things, but the Nashville Rape and Sexual Abuse center was where she focused her efforts. She helped the center by speaking and educating others such as first responders about rape and lobbied for a bill to be passed on behalf of the rape survivor. She was so passionate; she published a book to help others.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Verla Schara of Postville, Iowa. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dave Madsen. Two Daughters Laura Madsen Kivilaan (Aleks) and Amy Madsen Ross (Steve). Five Grandchildren Jessica Johnson (David), David Kivilaan (Amy), Zach Ross, Noah Ross and Joey Ross. Four ½ great grandchildren Ava Johnson, David Johnson, Aleks Johnson and Andrew Johnson. One baby Kivilaan on the way. One sister, Sharon Waters of Squim, Washington.
We would like to thank everyone for all the calls, emails, and condolences and the amazing staff at Vanderbilt Medical Center especially the Trauma ICU who took fabulous care of her in her last days.
In Leu of flowers, we would like donations to be sent to Leukemia and Lymphoma society of Middle Tennessee, The Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt or the Nashville Rape and Sexual Abuse Center.
