

COWART, JR., Thomas William Age 83. A Cowboy, a Marine, and an Air Force Pilot, T.W. was a full-fledge member of the Greatest Generation. His profession was oil and gas, but his love was family, faith, and country. He was proud of his two sons, but he was the adored "Giddy" to his six grandchildren. He spent 44 years as a member and song leader at Kensington Woods Church of Christ in Hattiesburg, MS, and 12 years at the Otter Creek Church of Christ. His devotion to faith, and love of youth, were combined in his founding and chairmanship of the Southern Christian Student Center at the University of Southern Mississippi. He met Glenda Miller at Baylor University and she was his love for 60 years of marriage. He left this life surrounded by his children and grandchildren who blessed his passage in song and prayer on Tuesday, the 6th of November, 2012. Preceded in death by parents, Tom and Gladys Cowart, and siblings, Merle, Beth and Ray. Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Glenda Cowart; sons, David (Greta) Cowart and Dick (Becky) Cowart; grandchildren, Claire (James) Haltom, Christine (Jacob) French, Kevin (Lauren) Cowart, Lauren Cowart, Megan (Devan) Patrick and Carrie Cowart, and four great-grandchildren, Cale, Judah, Dallas and Audrey. A Celebration of Life service will be held at eleven o'clock the morning of Friday, the 9th of November, 2012 at Otter Creek Church of Christ. Inurnment to follow at a later date at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Friends are invited to gather with the family for visitation this evening from six o'clock until eight o'clock at Brentwood-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning. Memorials may be made to the Wayne Reed Christian Childcare Center or the Student Missions Fund at Lipscomb University.
