

Born April 19, 1940, in Batavia, New York to Richard and Reida (Borton)Whitcomb. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years and mother to his children, Sharon (Martinec) Whitcomb and his brother Richard. He is survived by his wife, Karen Prevatt, his children, Maureen Ringley (Sean), Jason Whitcomb (Kathi), and Amy Herrero (Danny) and his six grandchildren, Tyler, Rachel (Kevin), Kristina, Bryce, Grace, and Katherine. Allen is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rosella Manley of Town of Tonawanda, New York, brother-in-law and wife, Stephen & Loretta Martinec of Glenwood, Maryland.
Educated at SUNY Cortland where he was a student-athlete on the swim team for four years. Soon after graduating he married Sharon and joined the US Army, serving as an officer for 26 years and rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a Vietnam Veteran. He traveled the world with family in tow before retiring in Tampa and starting his second career at Southwest Florida Water Management District’s main office in Brooksville, Florida. Always an avid golfer, he also enjoyed being part of several rose societies, hybridizing roses, and building a beautiful rose garden in his backyard.
Memorial services with military honors will be conducted 11;00am, Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
