Alvin was born on June 30, 1945 in Ithaca, New York to Czechoslovakian immigrants, Alois and Jenny Mazourek. At the age of 5, Alvin moved with his family to Masaryktown where the Mazourek family were leaders in the agriculture industry, particularly in egg production. In 1951, Alvin’s father organized the producers into an egg producers’ cooperative, the Hernando Egg Producers, Inc., which was at the time the largest egg cooperative in the southeastern United States. Alvin spent his youth working hard on the family farm, playing pickup baseball with the local Masaryktown kids, hunting and fishing. Alvin attended Hernando High School, where he was a standout baseball player for the Leopards, alongside his brother, George. Alvin graduated from Hernando High in 1963 and attended the University of Central Florida Community College, where he played baseball, and later attended the University of South Florida.
On June 26, 1966, Alvin married his hometown sweetheart, Diane (Dawson). In 1969, the couple welcomed their daughter, Robin and in 1972, welcomed their son, Randolph Dawson. In 1970, Alvin began working at his in-law’s real estate company, Tommie Dawson Realty. In 1984, Alvin opened his own business, ARM Appraisal, which is owned and operated by his son to this day.
Alvin had a true servant’s heart, giving back to his community for many years. Alvin served on the Brooksville City Council for 16 years from 1976 to 1992, as Mayor of the City of Brooksville, and as Hernando County Property Appraiser for 16 years from 1996 to 2012. Alvin served on the Board of Directors of the Hernando County YMCA and the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Tampa Bay.
Alvin was known for his gentility and kindness to others. His entire life was dedicated to his family with his most cherished activities surrounding them. Alvin enjoyed attending all his grandchildren’s activities. Whether sports, theater, or music events, he was always there to support them.
