Steve is survived by his beautiful and loving wife of 25 years, Sharon Kae Graves; four children: daughter, Melissa Welch (Graves) and son, Donald Weiner (Graves) of Charlotte, North Carolina; stepdaughter, Tammy Irvine and stepson, Jimmy Claypoole of Georgia; brothers, Vernon Devereux and Donald Devereux of Ludlow, Vermont; three granddaughters, Tuesday Welch, Heather Irvine and Amber Irvine; along with several nieces and nephews; and we can’t leave out the cats, Rupert and Wiggles. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle Graves, 2004 and Dorothy Hunt, 1991.
Born Everett Allen Graves in Rutland, Vermont on June 26th, 1948, we all knew him as Steve; he was nicknamed after an uncle who did not return from WWII. He spent most of his working life as a meat cutter, but he also debuted in a couple of entrepreneurial adventures including a deli and a butcher shop. He curated his own Ask-The-Butcher website, started up an online BBQ sauce store as well as co-authored a grilling and BBQ smoking cookbook. Anyone who knew Steve can attest with a chuckle and then a story that he was quite the ornery character! He felt passionately about some things (feeding rascally squirrels) and unabashedly ambivalent about others (Vegan Monday). His life was a tightly woven tapestry of laughter, friends, his family, shenanigans, cooking and grilling competitions, jokes, letters to the editor and the list goes on.
He is Steve Graves, 71, a son, a nephew, a father, a grandfather, a friend, a husband and
above all HE WAS LOVED.
As for God, His way is perfect:
The Word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him ~Psalm 18:30
Here is a test to find whether your mission on earth is finished.
If you are alive, it isn’t ~Richard Bach
In lieu of flowers, wife Sharon Graves has requested donations be made “In Memory of Steve Graves" to the Building Fund at Calvary Chapel Hernando, 5155 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, FL 34606.
