

Homer E. Hunnicutt Jr., 91, of Brooksville, graduated and went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 18, 2023 at his home. Homer was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 6, 1931 to Homer E. Hunnicutt Sr. and Julia Wagoner Hunnicutt. Homer, along with his family, moved to Tampa, Florida where he attended school at Gorie Elementary, Wilson Middle School, and Plant High School. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and received the Eagle Scout Award and he was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. He graduated from the University of Tampa with a B.A. in Business Administration and served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard Reserves for 8 years.
He worked for Graybar Electric for approximately 7 years selling electrical supplies and later joined Gra-Car with his lifelong friends, Jimmy Gray and Leffie Carlton. He bought his partners out establishing Finest Foods and Finest Farms, Inc. which commercially produced, processed, marketed, and distributed shell eggs. In early 1980’s he bought out the remaining members of the Hernando Egg Producers co-op and continued operations of egg production, marketing and sales and also he purchased a substantial ownership interest in Hillandale Farms of Florida and Columbia Grain and Ingredients.
He was a member of the following professional organizations including Chairman of the Florida Egg Commission, Chairman of the Florida Poultry Federation, Chairman of the PENB (Poultry and Egg National Board), a member of the Board of Directors for the UEP (United Egg Producers), Board of Director for the Hernando/Citrus - Farm Bureau Federation, Board of Director Federal Land Bank and Farm Credit of Central Florida from 1971-2016, as well as the SunTrust Nature Coast Board of Directors, original Board Member of the Hernando County Planning and Zoning Board.
He had a strong love and loyalty to God, his family, and friends. He enjoyed working and always said, “It’s not work when you enjoy what you’re doing.” In his earlier years, he enjoyed sailing and hunting with his friends. He was also an original member of the IFC (International Fishing Club).
Homer is predeceased by his parents, Homer E. Hunnicutt Sr. and Julia Wagoner Hunnicutt and his sister, Ella Jo Ann Heidt. Survived by Nancy Harkness Hunnicutt his wife of 57 years; daughters and son-in-law: Holly Ann Hunnicutt Green & Thomas "Pat" Green Jr. and Melinda Gail Hunnicutt; son and daughter-in-law: Earle Blakely Hunnicutt & Kimberly Karol Hunnicutt, all of Brooksville, Florida; grandchildren: Mary Julia Green, Patrick Mitchell Green, Lawson Davenport, Haley Ann Hunnicutt, John Blakely Hunnicutt; and his cousin, Fay Blueford of Annapolis, MD. He was very fond of his sisters-in-law, Kay H. Finney and Billie H. Hamilton and brother-in-law, Pat Hamilton and their families.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm, Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 200 Mt. Fair Ave, Brooksville, FL 34601. Burial to immediately follow at the Brooksville Cemetery.
