Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Clement Peter Gordon and Dorothy Dunn Gordon; his sister, Nancy Whitney Gordon; and his grandson, Sawyer Rhyne Gordon.
As a young man, Jim was encouraged by his Uncle Paul Dunn to work on the Mount Washington Cog Railway in Fabyan, New Hampshire, during the summers of his high school years—an experience that inspired others to follow in his footsteps.
He graduated from Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Florida, in the Class of 1963. He went on to earn a degree from the University of Georgia in 1968. Following college, Jim served in the Peace Corps and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge in 1975.
During his college years, in the summer of 1967, Jim traveled for three months through Europe. He also drove the Alaska Highway—an adventure he often recalled with great fondness.
Jim was deeply committed to community service. He served as past president of the Hernando County Chamber of Commerce, was a 50-year member of the Kiwanis Club of Brooksville, and was named to the Legion Roll of Honor. A devoted member of Stable Faith Cowboy Church, he cherished his church family.
Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Terease Gordon; his three children, Russell Gordon (wife, Rose), Reppard Gordon (wife, Summer), and Tinsley Merrell (husband, Lucas); and his stepchildren, Jillian Clark and Chelsea Clark. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Nave (husband, Charlie), and his brother, David Gordon (wife, Linda). Jim leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at Stable Faith Cowboy Church in Brooksville, Florida. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, with the service to follow at 11:00am.
