He was born September 28, 1925 in Largo, Florida and came to this area 30 years ago from Winter Park, Florida. He served in the United States Navy as a Seaman 1st Class during WWII and worked as a Supervisor in the Forestry Division for Winter Park. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Morita Smiley; brothers: William Henry Smiley and Otis T. Smiley; sister: Bertha L. Moore. He is survived by his daughter, Kaye Bechtel (Steve); brother, Robert Smiley; grandchildren, Jamie Ansley (James) and Jason Bechtel (Lori); great-grandchildren, Hayley, Kailee, Madoline, Cloe, Svend and Daisy.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00am-12:00pm, Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel. A Graveside Service will follow at 12:30pm at Brooksville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to HPH Hospice.
