Originally from Mississippi, Mr. Draper was an active resident of Brooksville. He was a competitor in multiple sports at Hernando High School, particularly in track and field (Ha, Ha!) and football. After graduation, he served as a faithful employee of the Hernando County Property Appraiser's Office in Brooksville.
His greatest services to his community, however, shined through in manifold charitable works and contributions for people across the social and economic spectrum. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, helping organize and manage the Brooksville Christmas Parade. As part of Kiwanis, he ventured throughout the county delivering turkeys to those in need on Thanksgiving. When school began, he would help hand out backpacks and supplies to children. A devoted fan of University of Florida, he could often be found in a leadership role with the Hernando County Gator Club, organizing events and providing a forum for Florida alumni and fans to interact and enjoy the many good times experienced by the Orange and Blue over the years.
Robert Draper leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth (Schaeffer) Draper, an adoring daughter (Leslie Draper Stalcup) and son-in-law (Richard Stalcup), three beloved grandchildren (Ross, Laney, and Cooper Stalcup) and a host of friends across the county who will dearly miss his warm and collegial presence amongst them.
A catered Celebration of Life for Robert will be held on Friday, February 21st, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Merritt Funeral Home, 2 South Lemon Avenue, Brooksville, FL 34601.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Draper's honor to HPH Hospice:
