

APPEL, Sandra Gay Elfenbein “Sandi”, age 81, passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Hospice of Citrus of the Nature Coast. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania she was a winter resident of Florida. Born November 14, 1934, Sandi was a 1952 graduate of Academy High School, Erie, PA, graduating 8th in her class. At age 37, she began work on her Bachelor’s Degree at East Strausburg State College with a career goal of becoming a physical education teacher. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career with the Ohio Youth Commission teaching in state institutions for juveniles convicted of criminal offenses. She continued her education pursuits by obtaining her Master's Degrees, one from Ohio State University and two from Xavier University. After retiring from teaching and educational administration, Sandi exercised her free spirit and decided to spend the rest of her life on the road as a full time RVer. She traveled extensively spending the summers in Ohio and winters in Florida. Sandi is survived by her brother & sister-in-law: Gary & Helen Elfenbein; sister: Janice “Jan” Elfenbein English; nephews: Lonny (& Holly) Elfenbein, Bradley Elfenbein and Greg English and her beloved great niece, Olivia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lazaire and Edith Elfenbein. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville Chapel with Cantor Mordecai Kamlot officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
