Alfred Coleman "Bubber"

Alfred Coleman “Bubber”, 79, of St. Simons Island , passed away Friday, June 7th, 2013 in Charleston, South Carolina at his residence. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 13th, 2013 from 6-8PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 3 PM Friday, June 14th, 2013 at Christ Church Frederica with the Reverend Leigh Hall officiating . Inurnment will follow the service in Christ Church Frederica Cemetery.

Mr. Coleman was born April 9, 1934 in Jackson, Georgia to the late Alton Coleman, Sr. and Lois Jones Coleman. He had been a resident of Glynn County since 1963. Mr. Coleman was a graduate of North Georgia College where he received his Bachelors Degree in Biology. He was involved in many clubs and organizations including the Wednesday Poker Club of Ivanhoe and Monday Night Poker Club. He served in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He retired from the State of Georgia Department of Human Resources after 38 years of service. “Bubber” was also a referee and umpire for Glynn County. He was a member of Christ Church Frederica where he held various positions, including Sunday School Superintendent for several years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Banford Taylor and his sisters in law: Mary Haynes Coleman and Isabelle Taylor Pearson, his brother in law Reginald Arnold Taylor, Jr. and James Eugene Pearson.

Survivors include his son: Alfred Loyd Coleman, Jr. and his daughter: Susan Cohen and husband Henry “Rusty”; one bonus grandson Henry Russell Cohen V, two granddaughters: Lauren Taylor Coleman, and Allison Banford Buchanan; his great grandsons: Austin English, Aiden Phillips, and Keon Walker, Jr.; his brother: a Ret. Col. A.H. Coleman, Jr., (wife Sarah). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions can be made to the donor’s choice.
